UNIQUE TARGET COMPETITION

Tlio “Evening Standard’s” £IOOO unique target golf competition at Moor’s Park course, in which scoring is ky points, instead of strokes, is designed to give each shot its own value, and thus. induce more accurate shots I and higher scores. Drives from the tee, finishing in the fairway, arc awarded one point. The green, for the purposes of approach shots, is divided by a target into three circles, the inner, middle, and outer earning .nine, eight, or seven points respectively. _ Points are also awarded for accuracy in putting- , In the first round, the most prominent scorers were Mitchell 112, Mclhorn 160, Duncan and Alliss 159, Held 158, Carnegie Clark 153, Hagen 118, Popplcwcll 144, Howard 141, Kirkwood 12S. The highest possible score is 228. Mitchell’s total represented a score of 69 under ordinary conditions, equalling a record for the course. THE RESULT. Mitchell, with 337, won £2OO sterling.
