INDIAN TEAM DEFEAT CANTERBURY.

HARDEST GAME OF TOUR. , By Telegraph—Press Association CHRISTCHURCH; June 12. A crowd, of fully 12,00(J witnessed the hockey match between the Indian Army team and Canterbury, and at times they were, moved to a high pitch of excitement. Canterbury gave the visitors the hardest fight of tlio tour, and were unlucky not to draw. Early in the second spell S. Bell scored Canterbury’s only goal with a shot that left Ghulam All standing. Immediately after the bullyoil their forwards came back to the Indian circle, whore Teague netted with a shot which'the Indian goalie had no hope of saving. This second spectacular shot within two minutes of tho first raised the crowd to a high pitch oi : enthusiasm, but when the cheering had died down it was found that Tcagno had been penalised for “sticks.” India’s first goal ca.me late in the first spell. From a roll-in India set off down the line on the left wing, and a scramble in the Canterbury circle ended in Dhian Clmnd finding the net. Their second goal followed Canterbury’s two efforts, the same player scoring with a great shot after a fast forward attack. Canterbury’s solid defence did not allow the Indian team to shine so brilliantly as in northern matches. They were always fast and clever with their sticks, but brilliant intercepting and stopping by Canterbury broke up their combined p’ay.
