FIRM STAND IN EGYPT.

Conditions Of Independence

GRAVE SITUATION DEVELOPING

By Cable—Press Association —Copyright, Australian and N.2. Cable Association. (Received June 2, 8.35 p.m.) LONDON, June 1.

The “Daily Express” lobbyist suggests that unless Znghlul’s demands are reasonable, there may be complete modification of the independence granted Egypt in February, 1922.

Zaghlul Pasha did not accept the four reservations in the Treaty, and if he decides to take office himself, the position will be one of concern to Britain, which to-day has sent new instructions to Lord Lloyd (High Commissioner for Britain), to bring under Zaghlul’s notice the conditions entailed in independence, and inform him that the future depends on whether or not he will be more amenable.

The lobbyist says that at the moment the Government lias no evidence of any change in Zaghlul’s anti-British views.
