MEETING OF COMMITTEE. The committee of the S.P.C.A. met on May 28. Present. —Mr A. S. Elwormy feunirmart), MesUames Bond, I{. H' Rhodes, N. M. Orbell, Edgar Jones, Messrs Baker, Orbell, Edgar Jones, Clissold, Neale, Lewis, Glidcion (inspector) and Revell (secretary). Mr I). \V. Miller, (Tokomaru Bay), wrote re fishing with live bait. The secretary was directed to reply. Mr G. Gould wrote giving details o( a boundary dog on the Queenstown road. , The Otago Society wrote advising that the Society was looking into the question of boundary dogs in the tack country. The New Zealand Fanners’ Union wrote endorsing the present system of killing pigs.

The Timaru A. and P. Association wrote. veeommendmg the killing ot pigs by shooting before sticking as tlie iiw't humane method. The Minister of Justice wrote acknowledging tho recommendations of the recent conference and advising what it was proposed to do in connection therewith.

The secretary was directed to write to the Minister asking whose was tho responsibility for starving stock left in salcyards; it was decided to endeavour to secure the co-operation of tanners and butchers in advocating the dehorning at young cattle. Mr J. A. Forbes (Oamatu) wrote advising what was being done with regard to Animal Welfare Week. The inspector reported that lie bad inspected a team of horses, previously put out, of action, which were now in good order. A cow with a dislocated hip had been destroyed. In two cases he had came across cows with their heads tied too tight to the leg. In one case the cow had been sold and in the other it had been released. Two steers with ingrowing horns, exposed lor sale, had been dehorned. He had interviewed tho owner of a young calf which had been tied on the side of the road without attention. Hu had inspected a team of horses working with sore shoulders and had put three horses out of action. The owner had been brought before the : Court and fined. He had inspected a cow with a wire tied through its nose j to its horn. He had had the wire removed. He had inspected a mob of cattle which were being kent in a paddock without feed and had had them removed. He had destroyed five dogs suffering from various diseases. An inspection had been made of the monkey and the opossums at the park and lie recommended that the enclosure for the monkey should be removed nearer the caretaker’s residence so that the animals could receive better attention, and that the opossums bo released. It was decided to forward tho inspector’s report on these animals to the Borough Council.
