HUNTING.

THE LEVELS'MEET.

This is truly going to, bo a record bunting season, and tho great run over the Levels country on Saturday morning :-vvill long bo remembered by those who were luekv enough to tako part in it. Hopes earlier in tho week were damperod by the continued wot weather, and it was feared that the going would bo heavy, but tho two lino days put the country in splendid [.condition. ...... , .., , , Throwing'.'off above' the homestead 1 in some young grass alongside, the main Point .Road, a hnro moved off due west up into the Levels Downs* then crossed two paddocks before turning' north and Continuing for. lia'f a .mile. Swinging' sharp to the right, hounds wore running with a breast-high scent, and carried tho field at a great pace back; on to life main road, turned left up the road to Mr Rurkoic drive, up the drive .and across. a ploughed padclpck at tho back of his hoofse", and on finto tho bluegum plantation; .Tho pack drove-, through without stopping .into'Mr Kirbe’s, swinging to "the left into Mr Tozor’s and oil down, the full -.length of Ilia, property, ,coming out .at 'the junction'; of, the Levels Valloy... and Rolling-Bridges roads. Back into the i Levels Estate, they ran on duo ; south .for tivo mi'os into Mr Bnikio’s,' and across .two ,of, his paddocks before turning. left. ,iftto : .Mr -Jlarkness's, where hounds checked for the first time. This .was ( ordy' momentary,/.'as they were spon...aiyay. dgnin,,out' of) Mr Harkncss’s' i ipto; Mi' Bgikie’s. into the plantation, where numerous hares got up. and the hounds -.were packed up, ■ On roughly measuring up an .okl inap, the .distance showed easily seven miles, and occupied forty .minutes without' a cheek. Great hunting, and it is wonderful the number that were up with the pack at the .finish. Reviewing -the run, there seems no doubt that hares, were changed in the plantation in Mr Kirkels, as tho pace never slackened, and thesecond hare boat the pack in Mr Harkness’s, as she was seen coming back on to the Levels, very tired. In tho afternoon one or two short hursts were' had on the Levels paddocks, one resulting in a kill; apd there, is little doubt that the .kill was the hunted-‘hare of,the morniqg’s.r.un. Scent was catchy until later, on, when a very good snorting run was given over some of the Levols Kstate paddocks. over the .road into Mr Tozer s, and turning left into Mrs Bakers, ■whore-tho hare laid un in the .week alongside the Levels Valley road. Lhp huntsman, casting forward into M l ' Healey’s and Mrs Baker’s, drew in a. circle hack to where hounds had cheeked, and the quarry jumped un in full view of the nark, and carried th°ni up the steen lull in Mrs and circled round some of Mr Kirke's paddocks. A frosli hare getting up close to tho running pack' saved her scut. Hounds were, whipped off and packed un, and a return was mado to the Levels homestead. Those out were: —The Master CMr C. L.
