The Second day ol’ the Hawke’s Bay Jockey Club's meeting was hold in fine weather, and with a good attendance. The course wa.s better than on Eriday, alter the overnight rain. MaungarongH foil at the second hurdle in the Karamu Hurdles, and broke Jus neck, the jockey (F. Jenkins) .sustaining a compound fracture of the jaw. Strongholt also came down, but the rider was unhurt. Cohesion lost his rider after a hundred cards in the Akitio Handicap, but the jockey was uninjured. An inquiry revealed that it wa.s a pure accident. The totalisator handled £22,027 for the day, against £39,128 last year, making a. total for the meeting of .€40,317, against £63.349.
