CLOTHING FACTORY DESTROYED. TOBACCO ANT) WINE STOCKS DAMAGED. By Tclcsrapli— Association DUNEDIN, -May 2. Extensive damage by lire was caused to Montana's building at the corner oT Rond and Jetty Streets early this morning. The lire had a strong hold when discovered, and when the Brigade, arrived the Haines had hurst through the root and top windows, while dense volumes of smoke drilled .over the city. The Brigade had a difficult, task but by splendid efforts prevented the outbreak from spreading to the second mid lower floors. The whole of the top portion of ’die building, occupied by .Steel and Co., clothing manufacturers, was completely gutted, and the eontents reduced to cinders. The upper Homs were burned through in places, and the tobacco stocks of \V. I). and H. 0. Wills, on the second lloor, were, .seriously damaged by water and lulling debris. A. J. Ainge and Co. occupied I lie basement, and the firm's stock of wines and .spirits; suffered to some extent, there being nearly a loot of water in 4 he cellar. The building was a very .substantia, one, and has been the scene oi several fires within the [last few years.
