MAGISTRATES OVERWORKED.
ANOTHER WANTED FOR CHRISTCHURCH. By Telecraph—Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, May 2. Both the Magistrates, Messrs Widdowson and Young, are overworked, said Mr W. J. Hunter, president of the Canterbury "Law Society, in refering to tlie need for a third Magistrate in Christchurch. Air Hunter said lie had, no doubt that the illness of Air Young, who fainted at the conclusion of Friday’s sitting of the Court, was due to the way he had been overworked since he took ev> duty in Christchurch. His sudden eif.apse would serve to place in a clear light the necessity for appointing a third Alagistrate. The city was growing, and the largo increase in the number of motor? vehicles had resulted in a.much heavier burden of work for the Courts. Moreover, the Magistrates were chairmen of Licensing Benches, and both had country courts to attend to. They were- also Coroners. All* AYjddowson was also chairman of the Tramway Appeal Board, and occasionally he and All* Young were called upon to preside over commissioners. There was far too much for two Alagistrates to
