Mr John Brown, agricultural instructor, Taihape, came to Timaru by Saturday's first express. A London cable message reports that Mr Ashmead Burt.ett, member of the House of Commons, has resigned. Mr Justice Adams, and his associate, Air D. W. Bussell, arrived in Timaru on Saturday afternoon, and are staying at “Tlie Bungalow.” Paymaster Lieutenant Fletcher, new Naval secretary for New Zealand, sails from Loudon by the Tainui on gsth May. On Saturday night in the Grosvenor Hotel, representatives of the S.C.J.C., the Timaru A. and P. Association, and the South Canterbury Hunt entertained Air Herbert Elworthy at dinner, prior to his departure on a visit to England. Air Hugh Lowry presided, and in proposing the toast, “The Guest of tlvo livening,” paid a warm tribute-to Air Klworthv’s many sterling qualities as a business man, a farmer, and a sporting enthusiast'. Air Lowry’s remarks wero endorsed by all present, and to Air Klworthy were conveyed tlie bestwishes of tiie gathering for a very pleasing trip Homo, Air Elworthy made suitable acknowledgment of the .honour done him —an ..onour which he said lie very much appreciated.
