In reply to a deputation of file Chamber of Commerce and the Otago Expansion League, the Premier said the lienpost and telegraph office would bo started, if not before the end ol the present calendar year, at least before the end of the financial year. The plans and specifications were now being prepared. There were two alternative schemes, one to house the post and loHuTanli oll'i'l's ill a building costing LIOO.OOO, and the other lo erect a building to house all the Government Departments. The Returned Soldiers’ Association brought up the matter oil “permanent casuals” in the railway service. Air Coates replied that if returned soldiers had been in the employment foifrom two to five years, they need not worry about their jobs, but it was quite a different 'matter as to whether he should place them on the permanent stall’. That involved a niaiLer of policy.
