RED REGIME.
CAMPAIGN AGAINST RELIGION. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. LONDON, March 28. The Riga correspondent of tho “Times” says that the self-styled Holy Synod of Moscow, representing the Red branch of the Russian Orthodox Church, decided, apparently under tile Soviet's to abolish monastic-ism, declaring that it had outlived its purpcee. and did not reflect modern ideas, and therefore the monks must repudiate their vows, and adopt a useful livelihood. It points out that since 1923 many monasteries have continued obscurely, keeping within the law by organising as workng communities. The Soviet has seized St. Izaao's Cathedral, Leningrad, because night rowdies stole the external bronze ornamentations. It is believed the Soviet itself despoiled tho cathedral as a pretext for the seizure.
