Mr Galbraith (managing director ot John Mill and Co.), was in Timaru yesterday. Mr A. H- Steele, assistant-postmastei at Wellington lias been appointed chief postmaster at Timaru. Mr W. J. Bardsley (secretary to the Otago Harbour Board) passed through B 'Timiu by express yesteidnj on his way to Wellington. Messrs E. R. Guinness, R. Parry. JMaze', J. G. Gow and D. Stowell were passengers for Christchurch by ycstciday’s first express. Mr S. J. Mills, who was appointed this week to a position on the staff of the Timaru Boys’ High School, is all old boy of the school. His home is at Tomuka.

Mr Arthur Jordan, who has completed his engagement as tenor soloist at the Dunedin Exhibition, P’VU, through Timaru on his way to \\ ellington yesterday afternoon. Mr W. Johnston, .Bank of Australasia, Timaru, who is at present on annual leave, returned south yesterday after spending a few days in Timaru.

A cable message from London announces that the New Zealand Rural Creci ns Commissioners. Colonel iVsmoi, Mr W. J. Poison and Mr Percy Cox, liiivc arrived' from South America, where they cleaned most valuable data on the working of credits. The Commissioners are setting off oil Monday for France. Ita'y, Germany, Denmark, Belgium, and Holland, then return to the United Kingdom.

Mr Hubert Bell, of Christchurch, vice-president of the Press Congress of the World, has been advised that the third series of conferences of that body will be held at Geneva and Lausanne, Switzerland, from September 14 to 18, 1P26. Mr Bell will ioave New Zealand about the middle of April for Sydney, where he will join one of the steamers of the Aberdeen line for South Africa. He will spend a. month in South Africa, joining up with the fol'owing steamer of the same line, to London.

Sir James Parr, Minister of Education, was a passenger by yesterday's first expres>.Tor the south. It was the Minister's intention to visit Oamaru yesterday in order to inspect the Junior High School there. From Oamaru he will go on to Invercargill where he will open a new high school, and after visiting Winton he will return to Dunedin. There Sir James will probublv complete liis work ns Minister of Education. He expects to return to Wellington on Thursday or Friday next.
