Mr William Evans left by the early express for Dunedin yesterday. Mr J. Bitehener, M.P., for Waitaki, was in Timaru yesterday. Dr. L. E. Austin went to Dunedin yesterday on a short visit. Mr W. J. Rogers who met with an accident recent'y, has left the Public Hospital, and is now convalescent. , Police Commissioner W. B. McIJyeney passed 'through Timaru by the first express for Dunedin yesterday. At bust night’s meeting of the Waimataitai School Committee, the appointment of Miss M. Price as assistant teacher was.confirmed. Mr R. Randle, who left here some few years ago to go into business at Tuuranga. spent last week on a holiday visit to South Canterbury, and left Timaru yesterday on his return to Tuuranga. Members of the Railway Board of Management, Messrs F. J. Jonc?s (chairman), J. Mason, ai.d H. Mouatt, spent the week-end in Timaru, proceeding to Dunedin at nine o’clock yesterday morning. They left in the afternoon for Dunedin. On account of her approaching marriage, Miss K. Hind, assistant- mistress at the Timaru Boys’ High School Preparatory Department, yesterday forwarded her resignation to the High School Board. It was unanimously resolved that a. letter be sent to Miss Hind expressing the Board’s appreciation for services rendered,’ and best wishes for her future happiness. At yesterday’s meeting of the High School Board, the chairman (Mr J. Bitehener, M.P.), ref erred to the forthcoming visit to the Okl Country of the Rector of the Boys’ High School, Mr W. Thomas. Mr Bitehener said that as Mr Thomas would leave before the next meeting, he won't! take that opportunity of wishing both Mrs and Mr Thomas a pleasant trip. He was sure that all would agree that no one deserved a holiday more than Mr Thomas. Since taking over the Boys’ High School, he had worked hard to raise the standard of the school, and had indeed succeeded to a very largo extent. On behalf of the Board ho wished both Mr and Mrs Thomas a. very happy holiday and a. safe return, to cany out the good work sft auspiciously commenced.
