SWIMMING.
AUSTRALIAN RECORD-HOLDERS INVITED. By Telegraph—Press Association. AUCKLAND, January 20. The Waitemata Swimming Club has decided to write to E. Doyle, tile Australian sprint champion; Mr Christie, distance champion, and Dr K. Kirkland, back-stroko champion, to visit Auckland, arriving on March 15. AUCKLAND TEAM. By Telegraph—Press Association AUCKLAND, January 20. The Auckland swimming team to compete at the New Zealand championships left for Napier to-night. A. D. Adamson, Auckland 100 yards champion and New Zealand record-holder, left with the team. Kroni'eld did not leave. SWIFTS CLUB. The Swifts Swimming Club held the final of the 150 yards handicap in the Century Baths last evening. A very evenly contested race resulted ns follows: —H. Clark 1, T. Cullen 2, J. Curie 3. Time, 2min 22 4-ssec. Arrangements are well in hand for tho carnival, which is to he held on the 28th inst., and record entries are expected.
GERALDINE STOCK SALE. Duo to the hold-up at the freezing works, there was a very small sale at Geraldine yesterday, there being only one pen of sheep yarded—s 3 fat wethers, which brought 295. Other saies were : Cattle. —4 18-montli steers and heifers £2, 1 do. 355. Pigs.—2 porkers £2 3s, 1 do. £1 15s, 3 slips 20. 255. 255; weaners los to 22s Gd. FAT STOCK SALES. Tho restrictions placed on butchers at the local freezing works have now been lifted, and the men have resumed killing operations at tho normal rate. In order to cope with the increasing demand for “fats,” several special sales have been arranged for next week. On Monday a sale will be held at Albury, to bo followed by one at Pleasant Point. A sale is also being held at Glcnavy on the same day, wlii’e Geraldine is set down for Wednesday.
