SCHOOL SPORTS.
AT ASHBURY PARK. A SUCCESSFUL MEETING.
A school sports meeting, promoted by the North End Ratepayers’ and I Improvement Association, was held at i Aslibury Park on Saturday afternoon. The weather conditions were glorious, and there was a largO' attendance of the public. The object was to raise funds for the carrying out of further improvements to the Park. The Association , should have no reason to be dissatisfied with the result of Saturday’s undertaking, for from beginning to end everything eventuated smoothly, and tlio large gathering was more than pleased with the afternoon’s , sport. The programme, a comprehensive cine, included events for children of all ages, and in addition, an inter-school tug-of-war competition. This was won by Waimataitai, who defeated Marist by six. inches. The pulls were keenly contested and aroused considerable interest. One of the novelties of the programme was “The One-Man Band,” featuring Mr W. Thyne, who, by means of an ingenious contrivance was enabled to play six instruments. Another side-show that attracted attention was that of the Rosmars dare-devil cyclists of the speedaway, who performed all manner of stunts on motorcycles while travelling at full speed. The arrangements were controlled by Messrs G. H. Andrews (president of the Association"), C. G. Baker 1 ecretary), and H. H. Fraser, who acted as supervisor. , .During th'o afternoon several competitions were run, _ and these were •won by the following:—Cake, .Mr Spiers; boats, Mr E. A. Hamilton; doll, G.
