THE NORTH END PARK.

Nothing' more accurately espressos the cleg-re© ot civic pi-icle actuatinga community than the aesthetic enrichment of thei city in the form of pleasant parks, spacious playing-g-ruunds, and tlie making' of the Liity .Beautiful. In the main, the attention paid to the beautification of blie ony reflects the ideals ox the people in the same tv ay as a tveli-flcpt g-arciou outwardly reveals tlie (piaiity of the soul of the city dweller. In this respect, residents of Timaiai have every reason to appreciate the forethought and good taste of the earlier residents who designed ana developed Timaru’s glorious Park or Gardens which is a perennial source of joy, not only 'to the South End residents who have the good fortune' to possess such a delightful spot within easy reach, but also to' residents in all parts of the borough and hosts pi visitors who each year make Tiniara the Mecca of their' holi-day-making days. The people or Trmaru, however, possess another park of almost equal potentialities, as a beauty spot, if not in equal area, at least in a like degree of prospective' attractiveness. It is therefore, most encouraging' to note the awakened interest in Ashbury Park which has been kindled by tliei commendable activities, of the North End xtatepayers 1 and Improvement Association. ltealising the very fine asset the North End Park is to the northern division of the borougli, the energetic and enthusiastic members i>f the Association have aroused a very warm interest in the proposal to develop and further' beautify tlm Park. It is understood that a series of functions are being' organised to provide the necessary funds to enable tlie Association to proceed without delay with an ambitious and practicable scheme, for the improvement of Ashbury Park. The first, of the Association's functions will bo held to-day, and will most appropriately take the form of a. spoils gathering for school children. It is fitting- that the school children should play their part in any scheme to create the City Beautiful. Hence tire lively interest aroused by to-day’s sports gathering on the North End Park. Wo commend the activities of the Association and urge the community to show their well-known interest in the beautification of tlie town, by taking the opportunity this afternoon of paying a visit to Ashbury Park and at the same time give th.eir practical support to tlie laudable endeavours of the North End Association, to further improve one of the borough's choicest and most beautiful assets.
