Egypto-Sndian Service. PROGRESS OF ARRANGEMENTS. By Cable —Press Association—Copyright. j F.euter’s Telegrams. (Received December 17, 5.5 p.m.) LONDON, December 16. The progress of the arrangements with Imperial Airways for the EgyptoIndian Air Service was reported to the House of Commons by Sir Samuel Hoare (Minister for tho Air), who said the most important new point, as emphasised b3 r a detailed survey of the route carried out in September, was the great advantage which would result from the use of three-engined machines, thereby making forced landings improbable.
An agreement was subsequently drawn up, providing for a subsidy on the basis of a regular fortnightly service of three-engined machines for goods, mails and passengers, in each direction via Baghdad and Basra. It was hoped the subsidy and increase in traffic would enable tlio company eventually to make it a weekly service. The maximum annual subsidy would be £93,000 for five yearn. Owing to the time necessary for the construction of three-engined machines, it was not expected tho service would operate much before the end of next year.
