KILLED BY ROUGHS.

PASSING OF BATTLING SIKI. By Cable—Press Association —Copyright Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. NEW YORK, December 15. “Battling” Siki was shot dead by an unknown assassin. The body was found in a street near the theatrical district towards dawn by the same policeman to whom he said, four hours earlier, “Good night, I’m going home now.” A doctor pronounced Siki dead from haemorrhage, caused by a wound from a bullet entering the back, and passing through the breast. Since Siki defeated Carpentier he has been ’continually in the (press, due to escapades. In July last he was stabbed in the same vicinity, after which deportation proceedings were instituted against him. The police believe Siki’s fondness for women caused his murder by a rival. Siki had several managers, none of whom could manage him, and ins white wife was no more successful. One police official expressed the opinion that the shooting was duo to an unpremeditated street brawl, saving, “Ninth Avenue,” where the murder occurred, “is the gateway to the so-called 1 Hell’s Kitchen, and is no place for a man to push another off the sidewalk, which was one of Siki’s favourite tricks.”
