PRIZE DISTRIBUTIONS.

CONVENT SCHOOL. ... - The annual distribution of prizes at the Convent of the Sacred Heart, Timaru, took place yesterday at 12 o’clock, His Lordship Bishop Brodie and several of the clergy being present. The reception room, decorated In trailing vines and grape clusters, was suggestive of a Burgundian vineyard, and formed a beautiful setting for the sacred cantata “The . Ten Virgins.” The pupils, dressed in white, were grouped on both sides of the hall, and sustained the chorus parts throughout in a highly creditable manner. Tlib Gospel Parable was unfolded by a series of exquisite tableaux, which must linger long in the memory of those who witnessed them. Several instrumental items were interspersed throughout the programme:—“Andante” from Symphony (Beethoven), “War March of the Priests” in “Athalia” (Mendelssohn), and a Grand Festival March by piano and four violins. Some appropriate verses linked the cantata with the two closing tableaux, representing St. Madeleine'Sophie. The programme ended with the singing, of the Timaru hymn, the words and music of which were composed by two ex-pupils of the Convent, and an address of thanks to the Bishop and clergy. The Bishop spoke in highly commendatory terms of the programme that had been presented. The Gos- J pel story had been simply and re- ' verently portrayed, and he was not surprised to hear that all who witnessed it were deeply impressed. Referring to the children’s address, in Which they thanked him for havinghonoured with his presence their celebrations for the canonization of St. Madeleine Sophie, he said that he had deemed it a privilege as well as a pleasure to share with them in a Joy so great. He congratulated the prize-winners, and wished all very happy holidays, worthy of children of the Sacred Heart. The prize-list was as follows:
