BOY INJURED, A hoy named Hoskins received a severe blow above the forehead yesterday ••afternoon irom a heavy viec-liko instrument, which fell from one of the electric, light poles, which'was being put into place in Queen. Street. The fall was broken by the overhead wires, but the lad was sufficiently injured to necessitate liis removal, in the ambulance, to tho Public Hospital. BOWLING. The triennial election of trustees of the Wainono Drainage Board was held yesterday, when the following gentlemen were elected : —Messrs W. Hayman, J. H. Mitchell, J. F. Fox, P. Hunter, and H. B. S. COUNTY COUNCIL. The Waimate County Council met yesterday. Present,—Messrs H. B. 8. Johnstone (chairman), H. M. Whatman, R. Sinclair, J. Bitchener, J. Drinrian, W. Lindsay, A. Garland, and H. E. Cameron. FINANCE COMMUTE. For the Finance Committee, Mr Whatman reported that tho debit 1 balance at the bank stood at £14,744 ‘ Os 2d, while tho bridgo loan account was in credit to the extent of £l7 14s Id. Accounts presented that day amounted to £2263 15s Bd, and cash received since last meeting totalled £502 13s 6d, including general rates £302 4s 6d. j In the lower Waihao water race account there was a debit balance r+’ £IOO 16s lOd. Accounts presented. amounted to £2B 17s Id, amt receipts since last meeting were £24 8s sd. FOREMAN’S REPORT. The county foreman (Mr J. Reid) reported in detail on the progress made with the various works in operation throughout the county during the past month.

In connection with the prevention of the Otaio river from damaging the Bluecliffs road, near Mr J. Hart’s property, tho foreman stated that it would cost £2O to assist the river back to it 3 original course. The chairman remarked that if might be good business to spend the money immediately, and members agreed with his view.

Tho threatened danger of tho Waihao river cutting into the road below the Waihao bridge, near Morven, was remarked upon by the foreman, who added that if allowed to go unchecked the next flood would have disastrous effects, tho full force of the river being ‘ now directed against an unprotected bank of broken soil.—The matter was j loft with tho chairman, engineer and Waihao members to attend to. It was, deeidod to call the usual | tenders, to close on January 9th, for j tho right to cut cocksfoot. CORRESPONDENCE. * Tho Prime Minister wrote, acknow- ■ lodging tho receipt of £6, being the amount collected in the Waimate County towards tho late Prime I Minister’s memorial fund. [ The Main Highways Board intimated l that members would make a tour of the South Island after the January meeting of the Board. In connection with the erosion of Mr G. A. Lane’s section, Landsdown settlement, by fhe Hook river, the Commissioner of Crown Lands sugi gested that protective _ works bo attended to by co-operation between the Council and Mr Lane. —The engineer to report. A circular letter, in reference to the preservation of survey marks, was received from tho New Zealand institute of surveyor*. '/ The New Zealand Society of CiviL Engineers wrote asking the Council to grant facilities to enable the engineer; to bo present .at the annual general meeting iit Dunedin on-16th February. —lt was agreed to,grant the engineer j the necessary leave; . | The Waimate Automobile Association , drew the Council’s attention to a dangerous curve on tho Springbank road, near Mr- H. B. S. Johnstone’s homestead. —It was decided to erect a danger signal post oil the curve,

GENERAL. It was decided to close'the'office from 10th December to 6th January tor tho Christmas holidays. . Messrs Hanilyn Bros.’ tender ot £lio 19s Od. for bridges in the Otaio riding, was accepted. . j Before dispersing members exchanged Christmas greetings.
