USEFUL HINTS.

Rusty irons can be cleaned with sof* soap and bath-brick. One part borax to two of honey or glycerine is an excellent remedy ioj a sore throat. A metal teapot will not become I lusty if, after use, it is wiped dry ai< a lump of sugar put into it. If the blue bag is swirled round 'the water in whion glasses are to be washed they will sparkle when dried and polished. _ . When using the whites of eggs, it take a piece of damp soap and rub it on the place where the silk thread has broken. ..... When putting cakes in airtight tins, do not put them in straight from the oven, but see that they are quite cold. Wild using the whites ot eggs, it the yolks are not wanted at the same time, drop them into a buwi of water which prevents them hardening until you can use them. Turkish towels, however carefully you wash them, often dry hard. \S ash and boil in the ordinary way, but don’t mangle them. Rough Turkish towels should not be ironed.

When baking small cakes or buns flour the tins instead of greasing them. The cakes will not stick to the tins, and will bake quite as well. To sweeten rancid butter, place it in a basin of cold water to which has been aded a good pinch of carbonate of soda. Leave it to soak for two horn's, when it will be found to be perfectly sweet. .New stockings will last almost twice as long without wearing into holes if they are shrunk botore wearing. Wash them in warm water to which a little ammonia iias beii added, then squeeze out and dry. When coking cabbage or cauliflower the disagreeable odour can be prevented by droping a couple of walnuts into the water, or by setting a pan containing vinegar at the back of the stove.
