An ominous symptom of the politicai and financial situation is revealed b> the Finance Committee of the Chamber referring back the Finance Bills dealing witli further taxation and the establishing of a sinking fund. As the Finance Committee of the Chamber by sixteen votes to six, rejected all of M. Louclieur’s financial proposals, lobby opinion is that M. Loucheur will resign.

The Paris correspondent of the “Daily Express” says that a panic has taken hold of small French investors. The man owning a few hundred francs is sending orders to sell out French investments and buy Anglo-Saxon, such as copper, petrol, steel and rubber; anything except home securities. Official brokers and banks hurriedly resolved that no orders for foreign shares be acceptod, without a covering amount to the value of 40 per cent. I Protest meetings are being held throughout France, against the Government's new taxation, at which M. Loucheur is denounced, j Tax strikes are- threatened.
STRONG MAN WANTED. FINANCE MINISTER’S SHOW OF WEAKNESS. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association (Received December 15, 7.10 p.m.) PARIS, December 15. M. Briand held a conference with M. Loucheur late to-night, but no decision will be reached until after Cabinet meeting to-day. The “Daily Telegraph” states M. Loucheur is willing to amend the proposals, but this does not inspire confidence. On the contrary it is regarded as a sign of weakness at a time when the country wants a strong man.
