THE DUNEDIN OUTBREAK. DAMAGE RUNS INTO MANY THOUSANDS; Teleprnpci—Pross Asaortlfttfon. DUNEDIN, December 14. The disastrous lire at Messrs. Crust and Crust’s sample rooms, Manse Street, early yesterday morning, hea.vily damaged the contents of the premises, which are occupied by importers and merchants, to the extent of many thousands. The damage to the structure was coriiparatively light. The fire was confined to two sets of rooms on the second floor of a fourstorey concrete brick building, but exi/tensive damage was done to the valuable stock of every tenant. The occupiers were i Messrs. Seelye and Murie, clothing warehousemen; Woolston Tanneries’ offices and warehouse; Wanganui Woollen Co.; L. R. Gardiner and Co., chocolate and confectionery indentors; John Rigg and Co., chocolate importers; Robert Mayall, indentor; Strain and Co., crockery merchants; D. C, Haley, jeweller; N. McLean, indentor; B. Collier, fancy goods and toy importer; C. J: Wilson, representing ' a Christchurch firm of importers; Johnson, Garnett and Co., soft goods merchants. The rooms of the Wanganui Wooilen Company and Mr L. R. Gardiner were gutted, and the stock largely destroyed. Messrs. Gardiner and Co.’s rooms contained a valuable stock of English chocolates. Smoko and water affected all the other rooms, and the occupiers will sutler extensive loss. In the rooms occupied by Mr Mayall, on the first floor opposite those destroyed, there was £2500 worth of stock badly damaged by smoke and water. On the second floor a valuable stock of jewellery was carried by Mr Halley. Jt was insured at Lloyd’s, hut the owner considers the loss will be severe.
