(From Our Own Correspondent.) SCHOOL COMMITTEE. A meeting of the District High School Committee was held at the school Present—Messrs A. M. Fyfe (chairman), J. D. McKechnie, M. G. Williams, G. ! Patrick, D. Hatton, A. Reiman, H. Hill, F. Wallach. Correspondence was received from the Director of Education, ro Junior High School, stating n-hat owing to the large number of applications the whole matter would be dealt with by the Government.

j The headmaster reported the primary i roll to be 294, average 278: secondary 1 roll 52, average 48. Miss Martin had l osumed duty, and Miss Barker had returned to Timaru. The inspectors had visited the school and conducted the proficiency examination, and so far as was known tho children had done well. During tho week many pupils had been in Timaru undergoing the intermediate and Public Service Examinations. Mr Craig had presented 24 volumes of John Buchan’s book on the Great War. and these had been placed in tho school library. Tbe staff intended holding the school concert on December. 14, and the distribution of prizes on December 16.—The report was adopted. Mr Craig was .thanked for his donation of books. Tbo annual meeting of the Geraldine ' branch of the W.C.T.U. was held on December lltli. Mrs Noutzo (president) presided. An excellent annual report was read by the hon. .secretary, and a satisfactory balance sheet, by the hon. treasurer. _ The White Ribbon agent also submitted a report. There are now 51 members. It was unanimously decided to concentrate next year on orphanage work lor the W.C.T.U. Frances Willard Homo at Palmerston North. Excellent lectures had been given during the year by Mcsdames Don. I’. E. Taylor and Norrio, and Miss Henderson, 8.A., also by Mrs Low, M.A., on “League of Nations.''
