Threat Against French! Official. ANXIOUS DAYS IN SYRIA. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright Renter’s Telegrams. (Received December 14, 5.5 p.m.) BEIRUT, December 13. In. a speech at a banquet in his honour at Aleppo, M. de Jouvonel (J&.-ench High Commissioner in Syria), s:iid that Syria was calm, except tho districts of Damascus and Jcbel-Druse, Where the minority was waiving, not against France, but against Syria. Since his arrival he had heard persistent demands for the separation of Aleppo from Damascus. This was the result of fratricidal war.
Hassan Kharrat (Moslem bandit leader) operating in the Csagour quarter of Damascus, sent a letter to the local paper stating that he had detailed forty men to cut off M. de Jouvdnel’s head, adding: “Here is our reply to his speeches.”
