TEMUKA.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) TECHNICAL SCHOOL. The monthly mooting of tho Board of Managers of tho Tomuka Technical School was ho:d on Friday evening. Present—-Mr G. B. Cartwright (chairman), Messrs Geo. Thompson, M. 11. McLeod, W. Armitagc, F. Sanders, nnd tho director (31 r J. T. Smart). Tiro chairman referred to the recent death of tho Queen Mother Alexandra, and moved: “Tlmt this Board of Directors joins with tho people of the Dominion in. sympathetic recognition of the great ioss which the nation and His Majesty tho King and 'Royal Family have suffered in tho death of Queoti Alexandra.” Tho ntotion was carried, members standing in silence.

The chairman stated that since the last meeting things had progressed very satisfactorily. Most of the classes had now closed down, the only exception being the millinery class. At the olose of tho wool-classing class, tho instructor had delivered a .most interesting address, and the certificates of first, second and third-year pupils were presented oh that occasion. ' The shearing class had also proved very successful, and the instructor was to bo congratulated on his good work. Ho wished to thank most heartily those farmers who had helped the class with tho loan of sheep, sheds and services. The director stated that the sheep T shearing class had been run under some difficulty this year. Some of those who had joined at the beginning of the year had fallen out owing to having secured positions with the Power Board. On tho whole, however, the class had been very successful in spite of its smallness. During the year eight classes had been conducted—two of them were commercial classics, one senior and one junior.' The junior clais, consisting of about twenty pupils; had. been conducted under Mrs W., J'. Cartwright, and he was sure_all would appreciate what the Board had done in preventing the necessity of piijiils travelling to Timaru for instfuctioh. One of the l school’s pupils had succeeded in gaining the second prize in tl:«: wool.classing competition at Timaru. It was decided to write thanking thosq farmers who had ■ helped with their sheep, sheds, and also financial aid. and also tho instructors.

On Saturday afternoon on the Terauka courts a friendly match was played against 16 players from Pleasant Point, and although a heavy shower *of rain interrupted the game in tho middle of- tid afternoon, the courts soon dried again and the match was continued, ending in a win for Temuka by 27 sets to 4. On 1 tho same afternoon Temuka C. grade team journeyed to Timaru and tried conclusions with the Y.M.C.A. team, but were defeated by T2 sets to 4. W

On Wednesday next, commencing at 2 p.m., two tournaments will bo het’cl, tennis and croquet, in aid of the Domain Queen. Provision has been made for 48 tennis players to take part in the tennis tournament, and any players coming up till 4 .p.m. may join' in. Trophies have bee'h kindly donated by Mr G. B. Cartwright. Next Saturday the Temuka-Genddiria A. team will play their third competition match against Tiniaiu Club on tho Timaru courts, while the Tcuiuka B. team will try conclusions with Geraldine on the Temuka courts. DAIRY CONTROL BOARD. On 3rd December a conference of dairy factories was held in Cliristchurch, over which Air W. Machin (chairman of fho Chamber of Commerce) presided. A resolution condemning compulsory control by tho Dairy Control Board was carried, and it was decided to obtain- the signatures of dairy factories to a petition to be presented to Parliament, asking that tho Board be restrained from putting tho compulsory clauses into operation. At tho meeting of the Temuka Coop. Dairy Company, held on Saturday night, it was resolved that tills company, having every confidence in the Dairy Control Board, do not approve of tho petition to he presented to the Govcniiueiifc asking that the operations of tho Dairy Control Board be curtailed; that tliev do not in any way associate themselves with , the proposal carried at tho meeting held in Christchurch on 3rd December last, and that all tho company's suppliers.be advised not to sign tho petition if presented to them.
