A RECITAL.

MISS WESTAIACOTT’S STUDENTS. Tastefully decorated with roses, rhododendrons, white iris and. gloves, the Wentworth rooms provided .all artistic setting tor the recital given by students of Alsis Erica Westmacott, assisted by Mrs N. D. Mangos and Miss Joan Westmacott. The programme embraced 12 items, all of winch met with popular approval, recalls being accorded in every instance. In the selection of their numbers commendable ambition was shown by tile students. Good diction and clear enunciation, the primary qualifications, were also particularly noticeable. The programme was as follows Song, “The Arrow and the Song,” Miss May Baikie; song, “The Valley of Laughter,” Miss Marjorie Duffel; song, “Lament of Isis,” Miss Mona Melton; song, “Orpheus With His Lute,” Miss Irene "Woods; duet, “The Danube Diver,” Misses Edith Baikie and Ida Murray; song, “The Nightingale,” Miss Jessie Buchanan; song, “Happy Song,” Miss Marjorie Dulfel; part song, “Sunshine,” Misses E. Dunstan, Cocks, Daly, and Sauer; song, “Love’s Echo,” Miss Edna, Dunstan; song, “Oh Lovely Night,” Miss Mona Melton. In addition to the programme submitted by the students, ’cello solos were artistically played by Miss Joan Westmacott. In the first portion of the programme Miss Westmacott played Squires “Serenade,” a contribution that necessitated an extra item, the performer responding with “Le Cygne’ (Saint Saens.). Her interpretation of “Gans Le Foret” (Popper), later in the evening proved equally successful, “Aria” by Tenaglia having to be contributed as an additional number. The accompaniments, supplied by Mrs Mangos, richly, deserved the ovation Recorded at the conclusion of the recital.

Mrs H. Westmacott wore black brocade, relieved with white; Miss E. Westmacott, a flame coloured georgette, beaded in crystal; Miss J. Westmacott, purple charmeuse and georgette; Mrs Mangos (who accompanied the items) was in a black satin and lace frock over white georgette.
