METHODIST CHURCH.
QUARTERLY MEETING. A well- attended quarterly meeting of the Methodist Church officials .was held in Woodlands Street Schoolroom, the Rev. A. C. Lawry presiding. The reports submitted concerning various sections of the Church work were considered satisfactory. Sympathetic reference was made to the loss sustained, through bereavement, by Mr and Mrs McKeown, Mr H. Thomas, Mr and Mrs Doake, and Mr Schnack. A communication from the Executive Committee of the Methodist Missionary Society announced that the Committee aims at raising £15,000 during the present year for Church work in the Solomon Islands. Advice was received that the Rev. W. A. Sinclair, General Secretary, would visit the district on the 30 th August; also that this year’s Foreign Mission deputation (Mr and Mrs Dent) would be in Timaru on Sunday, 6th September. This day will therefore be observed as Foreign Missions Sunday throughout the circuit. In connection with the Foreign Mission effort, it wa3 agreed to arrange a ten-days inter-denomina-tional Mission in Wesley Hall during August. . The chairman reported that he had ordered a large number of missionary boxes for distribution. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded Messrs A. E. Bate and G. A. Bird was services rendered by them as workers for the Church, the former being a prominent worker among the young people. Both these local preachers have now removed from Timaru, and the best wishes of the meeting go with them to their new sphere of labour. At the close of the meeting the ladies of Woodlands Street kindly provided a delightful supper.
