The Celtio Football Club’s annual danco will be held in St. Patrick’s Hail on Wednesday night.

In ordor to make arrangements for the entertaining of parties of officers and men from the American Fleet, a public meeting will oo held in the Municipal Chambers at 4.30 p.m. today. Tho Mayor (Mr G. J. Wallace) will preside.

The weekly euchre tourney was held in the Unitarian Hall on Saturday night, when there was another very good attendance. A curiosity in pheasants was brought down last week by Mr It. Michell, of Mamaranui, Northern Wairoa. The bird had the beautiful markings of a cock as far as head and neck wero concerned, but the body and tail feathers wero decidedly female in appearance. Sportsmen state that some seasons ago they shot similar birds, and were interested to learn that there wero still some of the same species in the district.

This season is no exception in the Waimarino district so far as sheepworrying is concerned, for. already it is reported that, a large number of sheep have boon killed bv dogs. On two farms near Rnetihi it is reported that about 30 ewes have been killed.

Another change of hotel proprietorship is announced in the taking over of the Royal Hotel by Mr F. Carter, (ate of the City and Tattersalls’ Hotels, Dunedin. Mr Carter, who is wellknown to tho travelling public, intends to place the house on the highest footing commeasurate with a moderate tariff, and with this intention, considerable improvements will shortly bo effected.

A meetieug of tho Timaru High School Old Girls’ Association will bo held in the Y.M'.C.A. on Wednesday, at 8 p.m., to mako arrangements lor holding a concert.

Student tours to Canada will be operated by the Canadian Pacific Railway Company this summer, iii conjunction w'ith tho French Summer School at McGill University. There are many student tours to Europe run year alter year, but this is tho only student tour to the Dominion of Canada and the project is decidedly new. Montreal, by virtue of its situation in tho heart of French Canada, is considered an ideal centre for tho study of tho French ■language. McGill University, realising this, established a French . summer school there in 1910. After a lapse of eight years, occasioned by thenar, the school was resumed in 1922, and the revival has proved ,an unqualified success. In the past the students have como froih all parts of Canada' and tho United States, but this year the courso lias been extended, ( and an effort will be made to enrol students from the British Isles. ...
