COLLECTION AT TEMUKA.
To the Editor of the “Timaru Herald.” Sir, —In a recent issue of the “Herald” it was stated that one of the collectors of the fund to build the proposed open-air school at Tcmuka reported having received a donation of 10s from a Chinaman. Why single out the poor old Chinaman in this way. Another collector reported that he had found that the most generous givers wore tho people who had no children. .1 o my mind the people who have children aro quite as generous as tlioso who aro not so fortunate, hub they find that they have more pressing calls on their; ready cash in providing food and clothing and the every day school necessities. As a parent, lam entirely m favour of giving the very best conditions to children in school, but I sco why n K Chinaman who could afford to give IDs. and the parents of families, who could not 'afford to privo ns the collector thought they should, are discussed in any yny.—T am etc PARENT. ’
