THE LOCAL MARKETS. Business is very quiet in all lines of produce. Wheat appears to be a little weaker. The Homo market is at present fluctuating and is likely to do so until the out-turn of tho Northern Hemisphere crops is ascertained. Very litt-lo milling wheat remains in growers’ hands, but there is still a fair amount of under grade—that is, wheat which is below tho quality of good •whole fowl feed. Anxiety is expressed by holders of under grade wheat lest the Government should allow Australian wheat to come in duty free to compete against it. Tho oat market is still very quiet, there being practically no inquiry. Nominally A grade Gartons are worth 3s 8d to 3s 9d, and B’s down to 3s 6d. Chaff is practically unsaleable, and the outside value of good . bright is £4 per ton, on trucks, sacks found by buvers. Linseed is quoted to-day at £l7 5s to £l7 10s per ton. It is reported that owing to sufficient supplies net being procurable in tho Dominion, the chief operators have arranged for purchases over sons. Barley is off the market. Peas are very dull of sale. No. I’s are quoted at ss, and under-grade down to 4s fid.
There is nothing doing in grass seeds. There appears to he very much moro cowgrass this year than there was last vear. It is quoted at lOd to 10}d per lb. Potatoes are very weak. Whites nro worth £4, Da kotos £4 ss, and ordinaryrods £3 (nominally) per ton, on trucks, country stations. LONDON TALLOW SALES. Received 5.5 p.m., June 18. LONDON, June 17. At the tallow sales, 589 casks were offered and 150 sold. Prices were unchanged DALGETY’S REPORT. LONDON, June 17. “Tallow.--Offered 590 casks; sold 160. Prices are nominally unchanged.” * TEMUKA STOCK SALE. Small entries of all classes of stock were offered and a good sale resulted. Fat wethers and ewes of good quality sold at advanced rates of Is 6d to 2s per head. Inferior ewes went to exporters. Fat lambs, although only two export buyers and a speculator were in the market, sold at well over schedule prices. Fat cattle showing quality, sold at an advance of about 20s per head. Store cattle were of inferior quality, and met a dull sale. Dairy cows sold under keen competition. Prices:— Fat wethers: 24 at 395, 98 at 365, 15 at 35s 4d, 15 at 33s 9d. Fat ewes—lß at 22s Gd, 14 at 745, 18 at 235, 5 at 30s, 28 at 25s 3d. Fat lambs—6 at 27s 3d, 73 at 28s, 29 at 29s Id, 14 at 29s 6d, 42 at 30s. Stores—M.S. lambs 265, f.m. ewes 19s 6d. Fat cows £4 2s 6d, £5 7s 6d to £10; dairy cattle £4 10s to £10; potting cows £1 10s to £3 10s.
■ Bacon pigs £3 13s 6d, stores small 17s 6d to 32s 6d, weaners 8s to 16s.
