At the wool sales there was a rather better tone for merinos, due to improved Continental competition. Other sorts were unchanged. A New Zealand dip, “Craig Lickhart,” cold at 28d (top), 24d (average). Bradford tops (crossbreds) are .quiet. There is better ’nauirv for merinos: 64’s 51d: 60’s 4Gd; 56’s 34d; 50’s 29d; 46’s 22!d; 40’s 20d.

WHEAT PRICES. CHRISTCHURCH REPORT. By Telegraph—Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, May 8. Wheat is dominating attention in tho grain and produce trade. The meeting at Ashburton, on Thursday brought the- two parties much closer together, and there is a general feeling that a workable scheme for a guaranteed payable price, at least for next season, has been evolved. Tho price agreed upon is understood to bo two or three pence per bushel less than (be an-nm-cd price for this season’s wheat. Wheat is being offered freely at the arranged prices of 6s 8d to 7s. Fowl wheat is slightly easier.

Oats are firm, but business is very dnll. A. grade pro worth up to 4s 6d f.0.b., s.i., and U.’s 4s Id. equal to 3s 0d and 3s 3d respectively.

For peas, quotations aro 5s on trucks.

White clover has taken a forward turn, and buyers arc paving up to Is 3d, and in cases Is 4d . for best samples. These prices, however, nro for superfine stuff. Average quality is quoted from Is to Is 2d. Red clover is being offered sparingly, but machinedressed seod from Blenheim has been sold at Is lb, equal to Od to growers. Peas showed a spasm of life during (he week. Quotations are eg trucks. There is no ehoo'ge in cocksfoot-. The potato market is vo-b-r. Farmers nro now being offered C 3 5s to p.q 10s on trucks, but no business worth (--peaking of is taking place at these prices.
