It ig stated that the Food Commit* sions report, the draft of, which was approved, definitely recommends the creation of a food council, charged with the duty of watching prices 'and ■ investigating profits.. The “Daily Express” says the chairman will be a highly-paid permanent’ official. The council will be able by influence and publicity .to check abuses, but will prosecute when necessary. The Commission expresses , alarm at the concentration of the meat import trade in the hands of «. stl-ong group, but no evidence was udduced that this power was usted to the disadvantage of the public. On the , contrary, group control of ten i acted to the purchasers’ benefit, 'but the very existence of such power presents a possible menace. If the menace became active the Ministry might hajma to ; consider entering into direct competition.
