SOUTH CANTERBURY hospital ; board. TO THE CITIZENS OF TIMARU. TOADIES' AND GENTLEMEN,— again ‘offer myself ■as a Candidate for., a seat on the Hospital .80ard.....F0r six- years I have en- ; dc-avour.ed ,to serve your - interests. My record, , its, merits and demerits, are vfell known to you. " - ' . I have made a statement in reply to.recent- interested;criticism of the . I medical: -polioy- -of - the Board, . and the administration of its institutions, and: that statement, fresh in your ■ memories; ..endorsed; by my colleagues, can only be added to. by referring you •to the transformed conditions at Timaru Hospital. I can ,have no possible regrets in being associated with the reforms effected, and. the: improvements made in equipment, staffing, and all-round :: efficiency. No' public body is. more . heavily weighted with responsibility; than is a Hospital Board. There have, been periods of exceptional strain, and when enormous .demands have been made upon the time'and energy of members, and of which I, as chairman, have had my full share. ; Over and above the great amount of routine, work which requires attention, the following items will give some indication of the policy and work of the Board; ,1. The Abolition of the" Hon. Staff. At a Conference held recently between the Executive of the Hospital Board’s Association, the Health Department and Representatives of the 8.M.A., a; resolution was passed which ’practically, approved a scheme which .has proved so successful In j Timaru Hospital, with the. addition of 'certain/ paid specialists being, engaged. I-have already expressed my approval of this scheme at the Board table. - ■ , ■ 2. The establishment of maternity hospitals at- Fairlie and Geraldine, and the . equipment of a new maternity ward ih Timaru. It will interest you to know that this, new'.ward meant the eviction of the two junior doctors; from their quarters. The ] only accommodation possible for | them are the rooms now occupied by the. Medical Superintendent, hence the need for a new house. ( -3. -By personal; advocacy Tat ; the Board meetings f assisted in the arrangements made, with thu : , Council of Friendly Societies’ by which their members are treatod_.at the Board’s Institutions at half.rates. 4. The' establishment of a' Dental Clinic, long and urgently wanted; and which should prove a. boon to all whom it us/designed to serve. ... , • the X-Ray De- . : par.tm"Bnt>'”with .’modern' plant, - and giving, .first-class diagnosis . results, and capable of future use in Therapy ■ work.',.;, ~.,..,-.’ ' ; 6. A- thorough investigation, into the office methods,' which resulted in, '■ very radical, alterations: The Board . may how‘cl.alhy t6'' ; have a’system of a.c,codn'taney to' satisfy tile most ex-;i acting/ “ In some respects this is-the i ? :most*.im'p6rtantvadmin'istrative work i the Board has done. 7, The complete review of all . charitable' aid cases, which I personallynndertook, assisted by-members, ’bringing - the . required ' informatibn quite u'p-to-clate,- and to the knowledge of the Board. ' ' - -8. -South 'Canterbury is with the . 'eight Associated-Boards in the estab- : lishment. of the Sanitoriura at Wai- - piata", where the most modern buildings/on:most'ideal's!je, aye be- ; ing completed. In this, enterprise a . speed record has been set up. Our TIB. cases ar.e being rapidly housed and cared for. During the past two years I have been your Board’s representative on the managing committed, and have taken a keen per-sonal-interest in the work. When I review the work the Board has accomplished, and in .which I have endeavoured to share, 1 am quite unrepentant, and under ; similar'conditions;, would travel the same road. ' - - If consider I can be-of further service, I shall greatly value your support at the poll, and can' give the; fullest assurance that my knowledge :r>nd energy will be yours to the utmost. 4 Yours faithlully, T. WILSON POTTS. ■ 7 Theodocia Street, Timaru; April 27. POWER BOARD ELECTION. TO THE ELECTORS OF TIMARU. T AGAIN HAVE THE HONOUR to a seat lor the Power Board to which you elected me at its formation some two and a-half years ago. V At that time my belief was that a sound policy for an electricity supply for the power area of South Canterbury could only be based on a hydropower station under our own control and situated in our own district. ; lam still of the same opinion, j As a manufacturer, lam concernI ed with the question of an Sand reliable supply of cheap power. At the present time the progressive industries of Timaru are at great disadvantage owing- to the overloading of the Coleridge power-station forcing factory owners here to instal their own power plants at considerable expense: 'tee coat of, scrapping these plants When a satisfactory supply is assured,, entails' an extra burden of capital cost to the Timaru industrialist. If elected I will support any movement haying for its object the installation of a liydro-electric power station ih South Canterbury, and ultimately the complete electrification of the whole power area. , Yours faithfully, J. R. BRUCE. HOSPITAL BOARD ELECTIONS. ELECTORS! VOTE FOR LABOUR’S CANDIDATE MR E. W. JONES. OUR POLICY—To make the Hospital popular by always insisting on the best medical service, and efficient management, with closest scrutiny of running costs. „ The appointment of a Maternitv District Nurse as soon as possible, and a reduction in the maternity charges from £4 4s to £3 3s. As a Friendly Society Member, their Hospital Scheme, etc., would receive his hearty support. Fullest development of the New Dental Clinic. VOTE FOR i MR E- W. JONES AND PROGRESS.
