■ (From Our Own Correspondent)'. FOOTBALL. A' friendly match was played at Victoria Park on Thursday afternoon between teams from the Huimai (Willowbridge) and Northern Clubs. After a fairly even and uninteresting .game, the visitors were defeated’by six points (tries by J. and K. Clarke) to three (a-try by C. Hollamby). Mr Les Smith was referee. GOLF. ' - 'The official opening of the Waimate (jr'olf Club’s season took place .at the links on Thursday afternpoh'Tii the presence of a big gathering of ‘ members and visitors. Mixed foursomes were ployed, and during the afternoon tea adjournment ,the president*.of the <club (Mr, C,>GiSHolmes) ''expressed pleasure at seeing such a large attendance, and referred briefly to certain ’'alterations that had been made with a view to improving the links. He hoped that members would have a successful season, and after thanking the president and captain of the Ladies’ Cliib for providing -afternoon tea, lie declared the season officially open. • Thei following were, the best cards handed in in mixed foursomes over nine holes Miss Trotter and.W. Educational affairs; jin Waimate will probably ■ receive considerable attention in the near future. The High School Board of Governors is holding a special meeting. shortly to discuss the question of making application to the Education Department for the establishment of a secondary school. The advisability of agitating for a’junior high school to be attached thereto will also be dealt with. These questions, affecting as they do the primary school, will be discussed at the householders’ meeting this evening. TECHNICAL SCHOOL. Technical classes in dressmaking were resumed on Wednesday evening and Thursday afternoon, under the direction of Miss Munro.
