POPPY DAY.
STREET COLLECTION. “Boppy Day” was held in Timaru on Friday last, and by /the efforts of a band of ladies, over £l7O was collected. Early in the morning the collectors stationed themselves at intervals on the main street, and. sold, th.© litti©, iod poppies in great numbers. The amount collected carries with it a £l J 'for £1 subsidy from the Borough Council. The total is divided; 210 per cent, is sent to France to assist in rebuilding the devastated villages, while the remainder is a devoted to assisting disabled returned soldiers during the winter months. That such a satisfactory sum was collected is entirely due to the ladies, who worked energetically all day. By noon there wore very few people in town who did not wear a Handers poppy. The following ladies were responsible for the collecting Mesciames Wallace, Mason, Keen Zeisler, Webber, lnglis, Rawstorn, Minifie, Mirams, Bannerman, Misses karper, Moore, Irwin, Walton, Johnslon, Rickman, Curtis, Wade, Paikei, Clowes, Moody, lnglis, Paterson, and Fussell.
