ST. JOHN AMBULANCE.

ANNUAL MEETING.. The annual meeting of the Timaru branch of the St. John Ambulance Association was held on Wednesday evening. Mr F. A. Raymond (president) was in the chair, and there was a small attendance. .• THE ANNUAL. REPORT. The annual report stated that a special effort had been made to revive interest in first aid in countiy districts. Classes were formed at Cannington, Fairview, Temuka, and Clandeboye, in addition to a class held in Timaru. A private class was also examined under the auspices of the Association, resulting in 73 certificates being gained. To assist towards tlio expense of the country classes the Christchurch Centro had granted the Timaru Sub-Centre £ls from the Canterbury portion of the Government subsidy for; ambulance educational purposes. Work of a high standard was being earned out by the Ambulance Division, under Superintendent C. E. Hooper, and the Nursing Davision, under Lady Superintendent Mrs I*. Lewis. Three ; teams participated m the competitions held in Christchurch, and one in those held in Wellington, meeting with a fair measure of success. During the year the new motor ambulance had been put in commission, proving of incalculable value to those in suffering. The ambulance was a credit to its donor, Mr Edgar Jones. The number of cases transported was 160. The Men’s Division was equipped with uniforms —a' further step of advancement. The work of the SubCentre, thanks to the management of the Control Board and the generosity of the public, was now unencumbered, the only financial requirements being for the usual expenditure. On December 18 a social evening was held, at which certificates gained in 1923 were presented. The Association’s thanks were duo to Drs. Gabites, Ulrich, Ussher, Waddell, McTnnes, and District Superintendent W. Smith, for lecturing and examining classes. In moving the adoption of the annual report, the president said it was gratifying to note the progress made bv the country classes, in which respect the Association’s thanks were due to Mr Smith, who ha<l acted as instructor to those clases. Mr M. Higgins seconded the adoption of the report and balance sheet, which was carried unanimously. ELECTION OF OFFICERS. The election of officers resulted as follows: —President, Mr F. A. Raymond ; vice-president, Mr M. Higgins •, committee, Mcsdames C. E. ’Jhomas, F. Lewis, W. H. Fodcu, J. J. Mason, Olivers, Misses Holdgate, Strachan, Howell, and Fussell (2). Messrs M. Hfegins, W. Smith, F. Lewis, H. A. Toneycliffe, F. F. A. Ulrich. C. E. Hooper, J. Bnrford, and H. Howard. GENERAL. On the suggestion of Mr W. Smith, it was decided to recommend to the incoming committee that members of the committee attend at class nights to assist the doctor and be responsible for the gear. _________
