Sir John Marshall (Director-General of the Archaeological Survey ot India) has published definite conclusions regarding discoveries of an ancient civilisation in the Punjab Sind. Sir John Marshall states that five thousand years ago the peoples of the Sind and -Mesopotamia were living in well ordered cities and in possession-ot a high standard of art and craftsmanship" and had developed a system ol writing. . .' ' The sites of the discoveries aio ifarala. Punjab. Mohenjodaro, Mesopotamia, and the finds include brick houses, temples, water coiuluit-., crockery, toys, coins and an important number of inscribed seals. It lms been established that the antiquities Rie closely connected with the Sunienan antiquities of southern Mesopotamia, dating to the third and fourth nnlleniuni before Christ. ■ Sir John Marshall says it is impossible to exaggerate the importance of the finds, which at present indicate toe birth of Sumerian civilisation- in North India.
