MONTHLY MEETING. 1 Tho South Can tei bury Hospital Board met vesterday. Prosent—The i Uev T Wilson Polls (chairman), Mes- ' dames W. H. Unwin, F. A. Raymond and M. E. Tilbrook, and Messrs I. Brown, W. Gedde.s, G. Dash, B. R. Macdonald, It. J. McKeown and E. HardcasLle. Tho Waipiata Sanatorium Committee advised that it would only be possible for Dr. Kidd to examine patients, at the recognised centres In each Hospital District. ~ , The chairman stated that the iequest had been made that l)r. lvidd ho given permission to visit 'V annate on his way home from Timaru, but owing to the number of requests tor visitations, it was impossible to make visits or examine patients outside- ot the appointed centres. Mi- Dash said that it was not required that Dr. Kidd be asked to examine patients at Waimate, but merely moot tiieir local medical men and perhaps examine the facilities tor ueating -tubercular cases at the Waimate Hospital. A letter of appreciation and thanks for treatment accorded to the children at the St. Saviours Boys’ Home, was received from, the secretary ol the St. Saviour’s Guild. The Director-General of Health torwarded particulars of the diploma oi nursing and post graduate course for nurses at the Otago University. It was advised that Miss Janet Moore, late matron of Waikato Hospital,. had been sent to England to train and graduate as a nurse administrator at the Bedford College of Nursing, in order to take up the position of nurse tutor at the Otago University. ’l'd secure tho diploma, it would be necessary tor candidates to enter tire Otago University in the usual wav by passing the Matriculation Examination. 'the course would be for five years, and in addition to lectures, the necessary practical hospital training would- be included. ■ The Medical Superintendent (Dr. 1. L. Parr) reported that the following cases had been treated during the month of October, 1921: Timaru Hospital.— In-patients remaining from September, 83; admitted in October, 71; diselnrrj'ed, /7; remaining to November, 7/ ; total treated 151; average occupied beds, / 3.0. Of’ the 77 discharged, 47 were cured, 24 relieved and ,6 died. Of the 77 remaining, 21 had been in hospital over 2 months. Forty-two operations were performed, and 6 confinement cases were admitted'. - Out-patients.— Consultations 31b, surgical dressings 155, massage 71, total attendances 545. Talbot Hospital.—Remaining from September, 10; admitted in October, 5; discharged, 4; remaining to No-

'J’lie Master (Mr F. Mulvihill) reported that three men were discharged and three were admitted, leaving at present in the home, 41 men and throe women. There were three eases oi sickness, which were attended to by the 1t.Ji1.0., but otherwise the health ot the inmates had been normal. On October 14, the junior members of the Congregational Church - visited the home and gave an entertainment, and on October 1(5 a Cqncert party from the Salvation Army entertained the inmates at a similar function. Divine service has been held as usual each Sunday. Donations have been received from tlic following:—Cakes, Stai Football Club; clothiiw;, Miss Garland; flowers, Mrs Thompson, Mrs I ooth; cake. The Finance Committee reported having received tenders lor the erection of Medical Superintendent’s residence at Timaru Hospital as-follows: A. Kennedv £2480; M.unro and Prosser £2581; J. ~T. Hunt £2687; Shillito Pros. £2BOO. It was recommended

that the lowest tender he accepted. Only one tender was received tor renovation work at Fnirlio, Hospital. It was recommended that the chairman of the Hoard and' Finance Commit too be authorised to accept this tender it they thought fit. Boiler installation at Tim am Hospital.— Ihe committee recommended that tenders bo called lot that work'. Various recpiests lor mmoi expenditure trom the House Committee and Waimate Committee were recommended for approval. The report was adopted.
