Ideal weather and a good wicket favoured the resumption ot tfio match England v. Victoria. The attendance was six thousand. Sandham (80) and Woolley (11) resumed batting in England’s seconu innings, in which the overnight score stood at 88 lor two wickets, nartivopf and Wallace took up the bowling. A quarter of an flour’s play brought 100 up. Woodfull at long off caught Yvoolley off Tarrant’s first ball. Tarrant had now taken three wickets foi two runs. Mendreti come in. Sandham drove Hartkopf for two and reached fifty, receiving a cheer. Hendrcn-puliod one to the ieuee off Hartkopf. Hendry went on and sent down a maiden, then Sanidham played one oil. lie had batted 118 minutes, and hit four boundaries. Hendren and Douglas were cheered and advised to hit out. Tarrant replaced Wallace, and got Douglas first ball. Hendren cut Liddicut for two boundaries, bringing up his half century in 120 minutes. Bryan who had joined Hendren, played quietly. Scoring was so slow that the crowd became perturbed, and Hendry went on and bowled Hendren first ball. Gillignn was applauded on coming in, but Hendry was deadly, and soon got him with ,a beautiful ball. The innings closed fbr 241. Hearne strained a ligament of Iris leg and did not bat. Mayne rind Park opened Victoria’s second strike :to the bowiing cf Douglas arid Gilligan. Tlie latter got Park in the second over. Mayne and Woodfuil. both batted with confidence and brought tlie score to 111 for one wicket when stumps were drawn.
