TEMUKA.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) SHEARING CLASS. The pupils of the Texnuka 'technical School’s shearing class gave a demonstration of the work tnoy are doing in Air AicCuliy’s woolshed, Aldford, on Saturday afternoon. The weather was fine, and visitors were present irom Alill'ord, Clandeboye, Winchester, Scadown, and Temuka. It may be explained that the class was started on the 22nd October. There are nine pupils, who are fortunate in having Air William Goodman, an expert shearer, as their instructor. After the first week the weather was Broken, and this has made the term moro protracted than it otherwise would have been. Thanks to the good offices of Air S. AlcCully, the shed was kept fairly full of sheep after the first week. About 1600 sheep have been shorn this year, the owners being Messrs D. Scott, G. 13. Cartwright, J. N. Taylor, and W. Philips. Tli© pupils havo been anxious to learn, and good work has been done from the start; several visitors during the session expressing tho opinion that the shearing they saw would compare favourably with the work of shearer’s of some cxpeiionco. Mrs McCully has been kindness itself, and it has been largely through the goodness of Air AlcCully and herself that the class has been so successful, and the work gone on so smoothly. The Technical Board arc much indebted to Mr and Airs AlcCully, the Farmers’ and Sheepowners’ Unions, and the owners of sheep already mentioned for their help, without which the class could not havo been run. The demonstration _ commenced at 2 o’clock, and tho visitors found the work of shearing, fleece rolling, etc., very interesting. With the permission of Mr AlcCully the pupils were given a lesson in machine-shearing. They appeared to be very enthusiastic and made good progress.. About half past three o’clock Airs AlcCully, assisted by Aliss AlcCully and others, entertained all present to afternoon tea, which was thoi’oughly enjoyed. Air J. Smart, director of tho Technical classes, then made a few remarks. After apologising for the unavoidable absence of Air G. B. Cartwright, chairman of the Board,of Directors, he proceeded to give the pupils a little practical advice, and pointed out that it was to their advantage to learn blade shearing as against machine shearing, and he mentioned that the Farmers’ and Sheepowners’ Unions were only isupporting blade classes, and when they finished work at tho class, which would probably be on Tuesday next, they would have no trouble in getting shearing work. Ho thanked all who had helped in carrying on the class and called for three cheers for Air and Airs AlcCully. Air G, J. Pemberton endorsed the remarks of Air Smart, and referred to tho sumptuous lunches provided for the men by Airs AlcCully, and Air AlcCully’s efforts on behalf of the class. After eulogising the work of Air Smart he called for three cheers for him. Tho cheers were heartily given, and fittingly acknowledged by Air McCully and Air Smart.
