PROTECTING THE CATTLE INDUSTRY. Bj* Cable —Press Association—Copyright SYDNEY, July 1. The Select Committee appointed to consider the proposed Meat Encouragement Bill decided to give it their support. The Government will he asked to introduce the Bill at an early date. It provides that a levy shall be imposed on horned stock of Id per head, with an exemption up to 100 in the case of any one owner, and a lpvy on sheep of ono-sixth of a penny, with exemption up to 500. The Committee recommend that the tenure of the members of the Board to be set. up should be limited to five years unless Parliament decides to renew' the appointment for a further period. The opinion is expressed that unless something is done by way of the organisation of the cattle industry, it will in whole or part die out.
