(From Our Own Correspondent). MOTOR SMASH. Yesterday forenoon, a motor collision occurred at the intersection of lung Street and Ewan Road, both cars being badly damaged. Fortunately none oi the occupants was injured.

VALUABLE DOG KILLED

On Saturday afternoon a Timaru car ran over and killed two dogs at the southern end of the town. One ot the dogs, owned by Mr Gudex, Maitohi, was a. valuable animal, the owner having recently , refused: .an . offer of xlu for him. The other dog, a retriever, was owned by Mr W. A. Ives, of the South End garage.

MANSLAUGHTER CHARGE.

In connection with the death of the old mail, David Thomas Miller, which occurred at Winchester, and conceinin" which, an inquest was held at lemuka on June 10, before the Coroner, Mr E. D. Mosley, S.M., a charge of manslaughter has been preferred against George Mcßratney, who will appear before the Justices at Temuka on Friday.

ST. PETER’S PATRONAL SERVICES.

Sunday being the Anniversary of the dedication of St. JL’eter’s Anglican Church, special services were held. Ax the morning service the vicar (the Rev. J. R. Hervey), gave an address to the children, taking for liis s subject “Atlanta and the Golden Rails. Special hymns were sung by the children, of whom there waa a mige attendance. At the* commencement ot evening service, the processional “Hail Festal Day” was sung. The vicar delivered a very interesting, sermon, his subject being “The Magnet and the Slack Thread.” Both services were very largely attended. The sanctuary was beautifully decorated with palms, ferns, and white flowers.

PERSONAL

At Winchester on Friday night residents ui uie uistrict met to farewell Mr J J. Cotter, who recently disposed of tho Wolseley Hotel, and is leaving the district. Mr J. C. South presided, and among those present was Mr J. Kennedy, Mayor of Geraldine. Highly complimentary references were made to Mr Cotter, who .was described as an ideal publican,; and lie was presented with a handsome" gold" watch. Mr Cotter feelingly replied. He expressed keen regret at parting from his many good friends in the Winchester district arid thanked then! .heartily .for .rhe very fine time-piece which they had given him, as well as for the very kindly sentiments by -which it was accompanied. A number of toasts. were honoui ed and musical items were given by Messrs W. Coohibes, H. Heriihy, W. Ives, and Major White.

PICTURES TO-NIGHT.

A treat is in store for Temuka patrons to-night, when the new Mary Anderson production, “Too Much Married”. will be screened. The picture is a rapid-fire comedy-drama with loads or suspense■ and,; all the other qualities tnat go to -make up a good entertainment. Another round of “The .Leather Pushers”, will also be screen ed. Two comedy films and a Gazette complete a good' programme.

NOTES

The. annual meeting of the Temuka Branch of the Navy League will! be held in the Parish hall on Friday evening. As the business is of a very important nature, a, large attendance is requested. On Thursday evening . the Temuka Fire Brigade will, hold their annual ball in the drill hall which will be decorated for the occasion. Special supper arrangements have been made, and Miss Morgan’s orchestra has been engaged. Mr, H. Simon, of Orakipaoa was a very successful exhibitor at the Waimate poultry show, scoring first prize with a splendid utility black minorca pullet. ■ The spinsters arid bachelors of Waitohi will hold their annual ball on Friday, July 11.'
