Resignation of Premier.
CHALLENGE TO BRITAIN
By Cable —Press Association —Copyright. CAIRO, June 29. Zaghlul Pasha lias gong to Alexan dria to tender his resignation. Tlie departure of Zaghlul Paslia io; Alexandria was in accordance with a decision lie announced in the Chamber last evening in tlie course of a speech replying to Lord Parmoor’s speech in the House of Lords. Zaghlul declared that Egypt would never renounce ner rights to the .Soudan. He himsoli would never negotiate with a British Government on the basis of the de claration of February 19, 1922. He had hoped the Labour Government would support the cause of liberty, but unfortunately it followed the saute lines as all Imperialistic Governments. Zaghlul concluded by declaring that if unable to get satisfaction he would resign. Ho would submit the matter to the King. King Fuad refused Zaghlul Pasha’s resignation.
ONLY POLITICAL MOVE. REASON FOR RESIGNATION. ~Sy Cable—Press Association—Copyrigh Received 7.30 p.m., June 30. LONDON, Tune 29. The “Daily Mail’’ says that London officials acquainted with Egyptian affairs attach little importance to Zaghlul Pasha’s action in proffering the resignation of the Government. It is merely a political move. Zaghlul Pasha knows well that no British Government could betray itself, its pledges, its officials, life and work and British commerce, by handing over ths Soudan. Zaghlul is adopting an extreme attitude in order to forestall, any rival adopting it. If thereafter, the Egyptian Chamber maintains him in office, as is likely, he thereby becomes in a position to negotiate with Britain in order to get the best terms he can, though formally he does not accept Britain’s right to retain D:c Soudan.
