The ceremony of turning the first sod for the Dunedin Exhibition was performed at Logan Park on Saturday. The possibility of the minimum grading points for first grade butter and cheese being raised from 88 to 9Q was mentioned by the president of the National Dairy Conference recently. Such a recommendation had been made at a meeting of the New Zealand dairy factory managers, and sent forward to the conference. The latter added Mr Morton, had approved of the idea, and he also understood the Agricultural Division were in favour of it. He hoped, therefore, that the time was not far distant when the change would be brought about. “The fact that the platform of tho proposed Fanners’ Political Party includes an Electoral Reform measure is surely strong enough evidence that tho people in tho country are tired of tho present obsolete, undemocratic mode of electing Parliament,” stated Hon, J. A. Hannan at Invercargill, “and it is a fact that tho retention of the present method against public opinion will merely hasten the end of the Government responsible.
