AIDS TO BEAUTY.

DIET. Diet has a very far-reachiong influence cm a woman’s appearance. It not only influences her figure, whether she remains slim and dainty or puts on weight too rapidly, but upon it wise choice in the matter of lood depends the clearness of her skin, the brightness of her eyes, and even the sheen on her hair. THE EE MEALS DAILY. A good complexicn depends very largely on a good digestion, and the woman who cats too often or too much, and indulges in sweets at odd hours, cannot expect to posses either. Three meals daily, with a cup of tea and a biscuit in the afternoon, are ample for cc cry one, provided that, those meals are nourishing. Moat should never bo taken more than twice daily, and when the complexion is inclined to be 1 coarse and greasy, with blotches and pimples, once will be ample. Fish for lunch and meat for dinner should be the daily diet,' to which an ample supply of vegetables, cooked or uncooked, and fruit must bo added.

Pork, if taken frequently, goose, and very fat meats have a coarsening effect on the skin, too many chocolates and other sweets are bad for both complexion and figure, while tea, if taken '".oral times a day, makes the skin sallow.

iJie would-be beauty should limit her menu to lean moat (beef and mutton), chicken, white fish (such as turbot, sole, whiting), milk puddings, cream, cheese, butter, and maize porridge, the latter being excellent for those who dcsiro to fill out a too angular figure. Salads should bo served at both lunch and dinner; and watercress and raw tomatoes are excellent for making the skin clear and the eyes bright. EAT PLENTY OF FRUIT. Sweets should only he taken after lunch and dinner, but fruit may ie oaten at all hours, although the host time is o'U'lv morning, preferably before breakfast. An apple before breakfast and one the last thing ~t night make for both health and beauty. Figs, fresh or dried, dates, raisins, and oranges are all beneficial.

Spirits and cocktails, except when taken in moderation, are injurious to the complexion. White wines may be enjoyed without ill effects, but the greatest of all beauty drinks is pure cold water—or barley water, which may he .taken in any quantity; in fact, the more pure cold water drunk during (lie day the clearer and fresher wiil the complexion become. TO WHITEN THE HANDS. Powdered whitening will remove ttains on the hands caused by peeling of apples and vegetables. This should be well rubbed over the hands and followed by a thorough rinsing iu soft water. To counteract the drying action of the whitening a little glycerine may be applied and the skin will thin bo beautifully soft and white. IMPROVING THE FINGER NAILS. To improve the appearance ot the finger nails, rub the tips of the fingers occassionally into a fresh lemon. This will prevent the nails thickening as Iho result of repeated trimming. it also makes the nails look transparent and chocks the formation of hangnails. Do not wash the hands for a short while after applying the lemon juice.
