At yesterday’s meeting of the Timaru Harbour Board, the report of the Royal Commission appointed to investigate the Harbour improvement schemes, was received. The chairman (Mr W. Hayman) stated that the report had only come to hand by the previous evening’s mail, and ho had not had an opportunity of studying it. It was agreed that copies of the report should be printed, and circulated amongst members, so that they could become fully acquainted with its contents before the next meeting, at which it would be discussed. The intention of the Post and Telegraph Department to avoid the mistakes made by other countries with regard to wireless broadcasting was mentioned by the Hon. J. G. Coates (Postmaster-General) at Stratford. The Minister said that Australia was adopting the regulations governing broadcasting which Mew Zealand intended to bring into force. New Zealand, lie said, would have to be very careful with regard to broadcasting.' They would have to control it and give good Her vice. Tn other countries broadcasting was on an unsatisfactory basis, and listenc-rs-iii bad spent thousands of pounds on a plant which was now valueless to them. If Mew Zealand could give good service to listeners in ■would be doing something that rio ether country had been able to do yet.
