IRISH FREE STATE.
MINISTER TO UNITED STATES. FULL RESPONSIBILITY ACCEPTED. By Cable —Press Association —Copyright. Received 7.40 p.m., June 27. WASHINGTON, June 26. The State Department announces the receipt of Britain’s formal notification that henceforth the Irish Free State would be represented at Washington by its own Minister, empowered to deal directly v.i.h the United States on matters exclusively relating to the Free State.
Mr Hughes informed Sir Esme Howard (British Ambassador ai Washington), that the United States cordially approves of the arrangement. The British Embassy will, however, continue to negotiate matters which concern the Dominions generally. The identity of the first Insii Mv.-
ister is undisclosed, but Dublin reports. indicate that the Free State lias already selected Professor Thomas Smiddy, who is now resident here.
