PLEASANT POINT.
From our own Correspondent. PLUNKET SOCIETY. A meeting of the Pleasant Point branch of the Plunket Society was held to consider ways and means of meeting extra expenditure incurred this year by the engagement of the ! extra nurse, and also to meet one- } third of tne cost of the new car.
j It was decided to ask that subscriptions, which are now due, be paid promptly. It. was also suggested that a donation of a sheep or any other saleable produce from sympathetic farmers would help materially towards the cost of the new car. If the branch could not meet its share of cost of the car it would mean that the nurse's services would not be available so regularly, especially in the country districts, therefore everyone who appreciated the nurse’s visits was urged to do all possible to raise the necessary funds. A tribute was paid to Mr T. D. Burnett, M.P., for bis substantial iinancial assistance received again this year. To augment the car fund, it was decided to hold a monster children’s fancy paper dress entertainment on Thursday next. June 2(5, at the Public Hall. A special feature will be a fancy dress parade, which, it was anticipated, would eclipse anything of its kind ever seen in the township. Prizes for most original costumes for children under five years, under 10 years and over 10 years, both for boys and girls, were allotted. The charges for admission were fixed at Is, mothers to bring a basket; iis was decided upon as a maximum family charge when children are in fancy dress. The ladies’ committee is helping with the making of fancy dresses in cases whore, through sickness or other causes, the mothers are unable to dress the children, and the committee look with confidence to the public to turn out in record numbers and make the function a big success.
