BOMB AT BANQUET.
OUTRAGE AT CANTON.
By Cable —Press Association —Copyright. PEKIN, June 19. Tlie Ei-each community of Canton was banqueting M. Merlin at the Victoria Hotel, when during dinner an unknown Chinese bombed the party. M. Merlin was uninjured. Mr P. Demafetz (manager of the eneral Silk Importing Company, New York), and his wife, and M. E. Horn geau, of the Banaue of lndo-China, were killed. Mr H. G. Gerit, silk merchant, and M. pellettier were mortally wounded. Five others were seriously injured. M. Merlin’s aide do camp was slightly wounded. The assailant escaped. Two French residents succumbed, making five deaths as the result of the attempted assassination of M. Merlin at Canton.
